Music and Art

Music is a huge part of our day - every day.  My son loves instruments, his favorite part of parades are the marching bands and the drums that - "I can feel in my belly when they go boom boom boom".  He loves singing and playing the guitar and has requested a trombone, piano, and trumpet for Christmas.  Moving to music can be therapeutic.  It has shown to increase emotional/mental processing and relaxation.  So today we thought we would paint to music.

  1. I'm so glad you posted this! I teach preschool and one of my favorite activities (which we actually tossed around as a thesis idea, but had to bypass for other reasons) was to read Dumpy LaRue (a great book) and then over a series of weekly sessions listen to different music, move our bodies to the music, and then move markers, paintbrushes, etc to that music. Watching the children's artwork change based on music is beautiful!

  3. Thanks for posting this. I don't mind it at all when my kids get paint on their clothes, but I have to say that I was surprised that your son didn't get any paint on his shirt and he stayed very focused on doing only one finger per hand. I've learned a lot about letting go control when my kids are being creative.

  4. How old is your son? This was precious. My daughter is 16months and we finally got her some crayons she LOVES them... I wonder if she'd color on her paper any differently to music? I'll admit I'm a little nervous to add markers or paint but you and your family are inspiring!
