You need a piece of plexiglass (Home Depot), Acrylic Paint (Craft store), paint brush, Black Sand (Craft store), and light table. My son applied the paint with some help from me - its best to thin it out as much as possible (that was where I helped). You can use glass paint, which is what I intended to use - but didn't make it to the store - so I tried acrylic, which worked fine. (Im going to use glass paint next time). Basically just paint the plexiglass, let dry, pour on some black sand, and play. - AK

BLACK SAND AND LIGHT
I thought this kind of resembled a zen sand garden. My 2 year old son said "Wow, look at the colors when I draw with my finger. That's so much fun". :)

Your ideas are amazing! We made "ice bricks" today and they were a total success! (pics on my blog, if you care to see) Thanks for sharing these fantastic activities.
ReplyDeleteSaw the pics! Wonderful! I have to take a second to THANK YOU so much for mentioning PAHM in your blog! You have NO IDEA how much that means to us. Its very frustrating to put time and effort into our activities/blog for others and then have them use our activities and blog about it without any acknowledgement to us. You are clearly a women of good character. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I don't have a light table in my classroom, but would love to try this with my kindergartners. I am wondering if I used my overhead projecter and a a 9 by 13 casserole dish. I could paint that, but I wonder if it is too thick. I can't wait to try it out!
ReplyDeleteIm sure there are a million ways to do this - and I think the casserole dish is a great idea! - AK
ReplyDeleteI would love to see your pictures but they are not showing up on many pages.
