Bath Bottles (Christmas Gifts)

We use Epsom Salt a lot during play time.  It's a great addition to a sensory bin/table.  You can keep it plain white for some fun "Christmas Snow".  It has a nice sparkle to it so it's great for this time of year.  We made a few colored batches this morning to stock up for Christmas crafts.

It is also wonderful on the light box.  See HERE

All you need is a bag of Epsom Salt and some food coloring.  We purchased our epsom salt at Walmart.

Pour the salt into a container.  You can also use a plastic bag if you don't want to get your hands dirty.

Add food coloring

Mix together.  That's it!

All ready for some craft time fun!  We placed these buckets in our art corner.  I have quite a few "projects" lined up for them.  Stay tuned.  :-)

Here is the first one we did.

Bath bottles.

Layering salt into bottles.

They loved watching this fall down!  My oldest is obsessed with sand timers so she was loving this.

Finished.

We also added some peppermint essential oils.  You only need 1 drop of oil per 1 cup of epsom salt.  If you want you can add more.  You will be able to smell how strong you want it!  We just need some ribbon and a tag and it is all set to go!

  2. How much essential oil do you add and do u add before or after filling the bottle?

Does the dye stain when in use?

    Thanks!

  3. Yes, I was wondering the same as Kelly...what happens to the colouring when you use the salts?

We do bath salts for family yearly....I usually keep to 1 drop oil/dye per cup if that helps ^ !

  5. @Kelly and Rachel. Like maddie said.. usually one drop per cup. You can add more or less depending on how strong you want it. You will be able to smell it! Food coloring will stain your hands if you mix it in a box like we did. However, it will not stain the bath/person, etc. It will be so diluted in the bath that staining will not be an issue. It may tint the water a little depending on how much dye you used and how full your bath is.

  8. Can I use peppermint flavor instead of essential oil?

  9. @Katrina. I purchased the bottles and www.specialtybottle.com @Jen... I'm sure peppermint flavor would work?? I'm not sure how the scent would hold up once in the bath but it's worth a shot. RL
