Water Bead Document

A few weeks ago we blogged about creating documents from our activities.  You can see the original post HERE.  We received some wonderful feedback.  Thank you all for taking the time to give us your thoughts and suggestions.

The first document is complete!  We thought we would start with one of our favorites... WATER BEADS!!!!  The document is a compilation of our blog posts on water beads, answers to questions that were asked frequently, and the benefits to your child.  It is broken down into 3 sections: Infant, Toddler, and Beyond Toddler.  It is formatted for easy printing to put in a binder with full pages, as well as by section.  It is 22 pages in length.  Total cost is $3.00.  You can download it and print what works for you.

For those of you who chose to purchase, we would LOVE your feedback.  We are really hoping you enjoy this and it makes your lives a little easier... leaving more time for play!

  1. I purchased, and I have to say, I LOVE this. I was hesitant because I've gotten pretty good at getting through the blog posts to find what I'm looking for, but I love the way it is broken down into categories for different ages as well as links back to your blog posts. It gave me information I wouldn't even know to look for on your blog! A great way to have the information at our fingertips!

  2. Just bought it and downloading it now. One bit of feedback is that you might want to make it in a .pdf format next time as that will be more universally readable than a microsoft document format. The .docx format requires Word 2010, so anyone with an older format won't be able to open it. Word 2010 gives the option to save as .doc and .pdf.

    1. You can do DOC to PDF conversion online for free, so this would be incredibly easy. It takes just minutes. Actually, anyone who purchases it could immediately convert it to PDF and open it. (http://www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/)

  3. Erk, sorry . . . .docx format will work with Word 2007 and newer.

  6. Sorry about that! It should work now. I know you already purchased so hopefully it will work. If not, let us know and we will email you. Thank you for your understanding. This is all still new to us!

  7. I love it! The only thing I would recommend is numbering the pages. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!

  8. I would love to DL this. One thing I would recommend would be giving your readers a little preview. Perhaps the table of contents and a page or two. You could watermark the pages in the preview to prevent people from just copying them. I think you would get a lot more purchasers if they didn't have to buy it sight unseen.

  11. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Is this 22 pages of activities just with water beads or does this document contain all your activities broken down into age categories? I will most likely purchase it either way, but I was just curious. Thanks, and nice work PAHM's!

  14. What a good idea - I like that you've chosen to break it down by age.

I mentioned you for The Versatile Blogger Award here: http://anappleformom.com/2012/01/blog-award-the-versatile-blogger/

  15. I bought this just to see how you would set it up and the information you would provide. I love how simple and concise it is. After I purchased it on my iPad, it took me to a link to directly view the document (nice, instant gratification!!). The only thing I have to say is in the toddler section for one activity, you gave examples of dialogue to have with a child pertaining to colors. It would be nice to have examples of dialogue/comments in some of the other sections as well (I thought the attributes section lended itself nicely to a specific example as well). Not a super big deal, but some PAHM's might find it helpful and as an SLP turned momma, I automatically look for the language component :) Thanks for taking the time to do this! It's awesome!

  16. Thanks! I bought your document because I've used so many ideas off your website, I felt like $3 was just a small donation to say thank you! And we'll use it eventually (we just did water beads, but I'm sure he'll love to do some other activities with them in a month or 2.) Thanks for sharing your ideas, my son loves the activities we've created together :)

  17. I am interesting in purchasing this document, but have a general question about water beads. After seeing them on your blog, I purchased a bag this weekend. They are truly so much fun, but I would like to know how you prevent them from rolling all over the floor and also from being squished/broken. I started out on the kitchen table, but realized they dropped off too easily. We moved onto the floor, but they roll away so quickly and go everywhere. I then tried putting a sheet down and that helped a bit, but saw that they got mushed/broken quite a bit. I have tried just allowing them in the bucket, but I feel like this is really limiting the play! Do you have any suggestions on how to use these without having them go everywhere, which seems to interrupt play and make cleanup so frustrating?

    1. We play with ours outside or over a large canvas. We were also blowing them out of tubes all over our playroom the other day - they are actually easy to pick up off of carpet. As for squishing, some water beads seem to be more firm than others. If I get a batch that is not as firm, I definitely throw down the tarp. AK

  18. for anyone who purchases their beads from http://waterbeads.net, their beads are non toxic, odorless and colorfast. also, when you purchase your beads there, request a copy of the msds on the product, they will be happy to forward it in an email.

  20. LOVE this! I am a first time mom and my son will be two in a few months. I want to start coming up with activities to help learn, develop, and have fun. This document is perfect for me. I don't have a lot of time to search the blog and having all the info in one place is well worth the $3. PLEASE do another one soon!!! Thanks so much!!

  21. I bought the water beads document thing for $3, but paypal took me to their site to update some of my stuff, so I wasn't able to download it. Help please.

  22. Does this document talk about where you buy your water beads? I've looked at waterbeads.net but there is also a site called rainbowwaterbeads.com that offers large quantities for educational play. I want to buy the best beads as well as the most non toxic. Thoughts?

  23. Yep you could make glowing rice using our glow water! The seeds make water beads - they take on water and create a sphere of gelatin - it's a fun texture to play with. But for sure you could make other things glow in lieu of the Water beads!
