Our Fall Tree

Things you need:
  • tape
  • contact paper
  • a willing and excited child
Whenever we leave the house these days I get this..... "Mommy, its so beautiful outside.  Look at all the colors.  Fall is in the air.  I see reds, and yellows, and oranges everywhere!  It sure is a beautiful day."   I asked him today if he would like to make our own fall tree and he said yes.  First we brainstormed together about what we might need.....then it was off for a collection walk.

We went out....in pajamas.....to collect leaves.  The whole time he was saying, "Im a collecting machine, Mommy".  LOL

Putting the leaves in his Step 2 car

This tree was 100% child-led.  Everything from the trunk, to the leaves, to the placement of the leaves was all him.  I didn't want to interfere with this process even a little.

(Clear contact paper on the window....sticky side facing out....held up by tape)

He told me that the leaves at the bottom were falling leaves.  Brilliant!

 ADMIRING HIS WORK!

  1. I love the tree! We did something very similar to this a few weeks ago, but then we turned the contact paper over and stuck it straight to the window. Now we have beautiful fall leaf "stained glass" on our windows until the leaves lose their color. (We ironed them to dry them out and most of them still have vibrant color after 2-3 weeks of being on our window.)

  2. What a great idea! I would have never thought to use contact paper like that! You are so creative, and your little one is too.

  3. I love this! Can't wait to try this with my boys. Question: once it was finished, did you put another piece of contact paper over the leaves? How did you keep anything and everything from sticking to the paper after it was done?

  4. What is the tree trunk made of? I just stocked up on contact paper at a discount store. This is perfect timing for us

  5. This is super cute. What a great idea - My daughter is always bringing fall leaves inside. This would be a great way for her to enjoy them.

  6. I did not cover it with contact paper. It was his project and I just let it be. I also wanted him to see what would happen when the leaves dried up and died.....which led to a whole new project. :)

The trunk is made of cat tails....at least that's what we call them. LOL Im not sure of the name of the actual bush they are from, but they are outside and he asked for them....so I went with it.
