Equal parts of liquid laundry starch and school glue.
Slowly mix starch in with glue... the more you handle it the better it will be.
If the mixture is too sticky, add more starch. If it is too stringy, add more glue.
Add a bit of color using food coloring
I like how simple this post looks. For some reason, that makes me want to make it more :)

ReplyDeleteLove this recipe!
ReplyDeleteHow long will this keep? (or, will it keep?)
ReplyDeleteCan you explain to me what school glue is? (I am an aussie, you call stuff different names :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi jacquline I am in Australia too and have used white PVA successfully
DeleteCan you tell me what brand of starch you used? Would Borax work? I'm Canadian, and not sure all the brands we have here will work as well. Also, was the white glue Elmers? Thank you so very much for this site. I've found more here in the last two weeks, than I've found online in 10 years. Much appreciated and keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI have made slime successfully with borax
DeleteI second the request for the brand of starch. I tried a home made recipe (http://www.pinkyhasabrain.com/homemade-cleaning-recipes/homemade-liquid-starch-recipe/ ) and when I combined the glue (Rose Art school glue) and starch, I just get a watery slime. Any advice?
ReplyDelete@ Grace's Mom- I also used the Rose Art School Glue and Sta-Flo Liquid Starch that I found at my local Wal-mart. At first, mine was just as you described, a watery, slimy mess. I kept squishing it with my fingers (well over 5 minutes) and it didn't seem to change much. However, I decided to add more glue. At first it was a goopy and really sticky mess, but after a couple of minutes of squishing it together, it came together great. At first I used 2 small (4 oz) bottles of glue and used the glue bottle to measure out the liquid starch. I ended up using another half bottle of glue for it all to come together. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteEven my 13 year old son played with it for about 30 minutes before I finally got him to go to bed! :) My toddler is going to love this in the morning!! Thanks so much for the great ideas!
Thanks for this. I made it today with the kiddos. I used my Bosch and it took about 5 min. You need the cookie paddles for it to work. Start with the cookie paddles and then switch to the dough hook once it isn't puddling. Occasionally stop to pull the putty away from the center and move all to one side of the mixer. Mix on the highest setting. I ended up using 1 part Sta-Flo concentrated liquid starch to two parts Elmer's glue-all.
ReplyDeletejust made our first batch of silly putty. the invitation is all set up, i can't wait to see how they enjoy it. I made it in the kids mixing bowl with elmer's school glue and sta-flo liquid laundry detergent. i found that mixing it with my hands was easier that using a spatula...then added a little blue food coloring. i hid some glass gems and boat beads in it. we are doing "A Story About Ping" themed stuff this week. thank you again for sharing.
