Food-Based Coloring and Dyes

  • Purple: 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen) or *Marionberries
  • Light Pink: 1 cup Raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Light Yellow: 2 Teaspoons Turmeric
  • Light Brown: 2 Tablespoons coco powder
Directions: combine fruit/spice and 1 cup water in a pan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain fruit/spice and store remaining liquid dye in a glass container.

  3. chlorophyll is good for green, it is a little bit more brownish than a food dye would give you

    1. We have never made it, we just use store bought food coloring. AB created this post, its possible she has made natural food coloring before. I will ask her to take a look at your question. Sorry Im not more help. AK

    2. Hi Nathalie - I didn't see your post until just now. Most food dyes can be refrigerated for up to a week. The tumeric can be stored for months without being refrigerated as long they're in a tightly closed container.
